#036 | The Beginning of my V7 Bouldering Journey

One new actionable knowledge each week to help you take more actions and live more intentionally, all towards happiness in life ❤️

Hey friends,

31st August 2021 marks the “last” day of my 6 years and 2 months of gym training. Check out the instagram post below for my last heavy strength day :) That’s probably the heaviest weight I will be lifting for a while (if ever…)

Now it’s not really my last day in the gym. I will still be in the gym but my training will be focus on the sport of bouldering! 🧗🏻

I have been bouldering recreationally for around 2 years now and I think it’s time to take it seriously and start training to make serious progress!

But here’s the problem.

I don’t know the bouldering ecosystem…

What to train? How often should I train? What’s the training split between on-the-wall and off-the-wall training? What are the climbing exercises I can do?

The questions to figure out before coming up with a solid training plan are endless…

As if that’s not hard enough, I set myself a hard challenge of getting to the V7 level in 6 months. To put into perspective, it takes people, on average, 5+ years of climbing and training to get to the V7 level…

So not only do I need to train consistently, I need to train smartly to even have the chance to hit this goal…

I have trained few sports in my life and I want to do something different with my bouldering training. I want to document my entire learning and execution journey, from breaking down the sport to daily execution; from a beginner to an advance climber.

The official timeline for this challenge is October 2021 - March 2022 (6 months). September 2021 will be my transition month from gym to bouldering.

So what’s my first step?

To build a bouldering knowledge map of course 🧩 and create the 1st draft of my training plan 🔥

I will be sharing my bouldering knowledge map once I have completed the 1st round :) If there are anyone who’s interested in bouldering and want to collaborate on building this knowledge map, let me know by replying to this email :)

🔥 Actionable Knowledge

The first step when entering a new ecosystem is almost always to build the domain knowledge map, either digitally or mentally. Even if you are taking actions first, your goal is to take actions to build a stronger knowledge map.

Zeroton is a startup project that I am currently working on and it’s all about creating and sharing knowledge map and more importantly, turn those knowledge maps into actionable templates and steps for you to take! More on this when we relaunch by end of this September!

I would love to hear from you! Share your thoughts by replying to this email 😊

Thanks for reading everyone. Have a good week ahead! 🎮

All the best,

Ryan O
