#042 | Never Give Up... except when...

One new actionable knowledge each week to help you take more actions and live more intentionally, all towards happiness in life ❤️

Hey friends,

In video games, when you are fighting the big boss, you might have to try many many times before succeeding in beating it.

You try again and again and again… until you succeed.

You don’t see each failed attempt as failure but more lessons on how to do better the next time.

But for some reason, when it comes to real life, people behave differently.

They would fail once or twice or X amount of times and they would give up…

Even worse, they don’t learn from each failed attempt, which means they keep repeating the same mistakes…

In real life, behave more like you would do when you play video games.

When you don’t succeed the first time…

Keep trying.

Never give up.

Learn from each failed attempt.

Try again.

And again.

And again.

Never give up.

Keep trying until you succeed.

You can’t fail if you never give up.

As soon as you give up, you have failed.

But is there a time when you should give up and move on?

Lool…

Yes…

You should never give up but sometimes it is time to move on…

The challenge here is knowing when it’s time to keep trying and when to move on.

In video games, you have the privilege to try many times.

But in real life, that might not be the case so here’s MY PERSONAL rule.

This is not facts but simply what I believe in…

  1. How much does it mean to you?Whatever you are working on, how much does it mean to you? Are you willing to devote your whole life to it? Or is it something that’s more short-term and experimental? If something means deeply to you, you should never give up! Otherwise, you will have the thoughts of what if and regrets… Never give up something that means so much to you. NEVER.

  2. Is the cost / damage of trying again reversible? Can you continue to play the game? For me, as long as the cost of trying doesn’t stop me from continue to play, I am happy to keep going until I succeed. If I can reverse the damage, I am happy to keep trying! For example, if the cost is no money to buy food, then I will think about my ability to "reverse the damage”, aka my ability to make money to be able to buy food in the future. If I believe I can reverse the damage, I will proceed.

  3. BeliefI wasn’t going to include this point cause I feel like it’s somewhat similar to point 1 but I want to really emphasise this point. Belief is everything. Your belief is THE last line of defence. You will never get any external belief as strongly as your own internal belief. NEVER. In fact, you are more likely to get external disbelief and it’s now up to the strength of your internal belief to fight it. If your internal belief is gone, it’s game over and you might as well move on.

🔥 Actionable Knowledge

Remember to NEVER GIVE UP! Life is a game. There’s no failure as long as you don’t give up. Keep trying and eventually you will reach your goal!

When in doubt, check with yourself:

  1. How much does it mean to you?

  2. Is the cost / damage of trying again reversible? Can you continue to play the game?

  3. Do I still believe in it?
