Mystery Gift Box #002 | The Shadow

The best hidden gems I've found; interesting ideas and concepts, thought-provoking questions, mind-blowing books/podcasts, cool animes/films, and other mysteries ❤️

Hey friends,

I don’t think I particularly like reading 👀

…although I don’t particularly dislike reading either 🤔

I do know that I don’t read for fun since I haven’t pick up fiction books yet…

I read to satisfy my curiosity; to learn about something; to achieve something… that’s my fun.

This week, I read about Carl Jung; introduced to his career, thoughts, and work on analytical psychology, dreams analysis, and many more technical words…

Here’s one of the interesting concepts :)

Concept — The Shadow and Projection

Everyone has a shadow, and the less consciously we are aware of it, the blacker and denser it is… and we often project our shadow onto other people

So what’s a shadow?

Shadow is the unconscious part of your personality that you have repressed or doesn’t recognise as your own.

Projection is where you “see” your own unconscious characteristics in another person.

To become more self-aware, you need to learn more about your shadow and the unconscious part of your personality.

And noticing when you are projecting is one quick way to start turning unconscious into conscious.

How?

Projection is always accompanied by a strong emotional reaction towards a person, an object, or a situation.

Yes… that includes falling in love… which it’s the projection of the anima / animus. Anima is the unconscious feminine side of a man’s personality and animus is the opposite.

When you like / dislike someone / situation, think about what you like / hate about the person / situation and that should give you a starting point about the unconscious.

For me, I rarely get angry and so when I do, I pay close attention as to why and try to learn more about which part of me the person / situation is triggering…

The key is to be more self-conscious about your emotional reaction and that should give you a starting point to start exploring your inner shadow world…

Notion Template — Becoming Whole Again

Another way to learn and discover more about your shadow is the exercise below from the book Receiving Love. I have created a Notion template for the exercise as well as included examples given from the book to help with doing the exercise. You can access it here.
