Mystery Gift Box #028 | Embrace the Chaos: Why Feeling Lost and Overwhelmed Might Actually Be a Good Thing
The best hidden gems I've found; interesting ideas and concepts, thought-provoking questions, mind-blowing books/podcasts, cool animes/films, and other mysteries ❤️
Hey friends,
No one knows the true reality.
Everyone has their own perception of what reality is; the reality of themselves and the world. Our thoughts, actions, and beliefs control and influence our perception. When our thoughts, actions, and/or beliefs are challenge, depending on the depth of challenge, we would experience a period of confusion and uncertainty. Sometimes the confusion and uncertainty can be so deep and intense that you might have a momentary mental breakdown 🤯
But it is through openly and confidently embracing the period of confusion and uncertainty that leads to major breakthroughs.
The unproductive way to embrace confusion and uncertainty is to be close-minded and strongly holding on to your core beliefs. Through being close-minded, you are essentially defending what’s certain to you and pushing back against anything that challenges that certainty. In this instance, it’s difficult to grow beyond who you already are.
This unproductive way is sometimes confused with being confident.
A better way to embrace confusion and uncertainty is to be confident, open-minded, and curious.
This is known as confident humility (a term I discovered in Think Again by Adam Grant 📚); the juggle between having the self-confidence that you have the ability to eventually figure things out and the humility to recognise your weaknesses and ignorance that makes you curious and open-minded. You approach confusion and uncertainty as a learning project towards a potential major breakthroughs.
In life, confusion and uncertainty is inevitable.
And so the only thing for you to decide is how would you embrace it?
A way to be more confident in the face of confusion and uncertainty is to voluntarily add “stressors” into your life. This could mean, waking up early in the morning, go no food for few days, or doing cold plunge
Voluntarily embracing stress makes all the involuntarily stressors in life easier to embrace 🔥
⛰ 4-4-4 Exploration Project
Each month, I would explore one new thing; a skill, a subject, or an experience.
January 2023: Writing and Storytelling (Subject)
February 2023: KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities (Cirque Du Soleil — Experience)
March 2023: 28 Days of Cold Exposure (Subject and Experience)
📚 This week, I finished reading…
Didn’t finish any books this week as I am jumping between two books right now 🤓
