Hey friends,

The importance of virtue for a good life.

Aristotle believes that to live a happy and fulfilling life, we need to develop / engage in virtues that resonate with our soul / spirit / identity. There are 6 common virtues: Wisdom and Knowledge, Courage, Humanity, Justice, Temperance, and Transcendence, of which each can be further broken down into character strengths. Martin Seligman have identified 24 universally valued character strengths.

To live a happy and fulfilling life, we need to engage more of our signature strengths; the 3 - 7 character strengths that deeply resonate with our identity. When we engage our signature strengths, we tend to feel happier and more energised. There are two ways to find your signature strengths:

  1. Identify your signature strengths by reviewing the list of 24 character strengths. The ones that pop out are likely your top strengths

  2. Take the VIA Survey for a more systematic assessment

Once you identified your signature strengths (and lesser strengths), you are now in a conscious position to incorporate these into your work and leisure time; which will lead to a more productive, fulfilling, and happy moments ❤️ Lesser strengths can give you an idea of areas of growth although some might say… just triple down on your strengths 😈

Here are the 24 character strengths grouped by the 6 virtues:

  5. Temperance

  6. Transcendence
