Mystery Gift Box #050 | Fail More, Win More: The Path to "Success" (DOAC - Law 21)

The best hidden gems I've found; interesting ideas and concepts, thought-provoking questions, mind-blowing books/podcasts, cool animes/films, and other mysteries ❤️

Hey friends,

I have been obsess with The Diary of a CEO podcast for the last few years. It’s one of my favourite podcasts and so when Steven Bartlett’s book came out this week, naturally I had to buy it and read it. Steven Bartlett shared his four pillars of greatness: the self, the story, the philosophy, and the team; of which each pillar consists of multiple laws.

Success has various definition but in the context of this newsletter, success means growth and finding things that fuel you with more energy.

🧠 Law 21: You Must Out-Fail The Competition

Innovation is the name of the game, and here's the rule: the more you fail, the more you succeed.

It's as simple as that.

In business, if you're not failing often, you're not innovating enough.

Personal Growth Hack: 0→1 & 1→100 Framework

When it comes to personal growth, it's all about taking risks. The more risks you take, the more you grow. Consider the 0→1 and 1→100 framework 💥

0→1 Projects: Dare to Explore — this is all about venturing into uncharted territory, trying the "crazy" stuff, and embracing experimentation. Innovation thrives here. You'll know you're onto something when you're not entirely sure of the outcome. Examples include building groundbreaking tools, pushing the boundaries of academic research, and inventing entirely new ways to do things.

1→100 Projects: Execute and Master — this is all about execution and mastery. The roadmap is clear; you just need to put in the effort. There's less experimentation and more exploitation of known paths. Examples include pursuing an academic degree, excelling in sports, mastering a new language – essentially, it's about learning and perfecting the known.

In reality, most projects are a mix of both 0→1 and 1→100.

Type 1 vs Type 2 Decisions: Choose Wisely

Distinguish between Type 1 and Type 2 decisions.

Type 1 decisions are irreversible, so take your time and think them through.

Type 2 decisions are reversible and as such curiosity and speed are your allies.

Don't aim for perfection; aim for 51% certainty and make the call.

💥 Key Takeaway

Use the 0→1 vs 1→100 and Type 1 vs Type 2 frameworks to embrace risks, experiment more, and make confident decisions in your life.
